Artist Statement
I enjoy the intensity of bright colors and illustrative decorations of cultures. In my work I like to incorporate the new with the old. I like to see my art as Neo-Art which is combining Contemporary art and Classical art into new art. In a sense I like to overlap two great art eras. In addition to new art I paint 80% of my portraits upside down. The work of impressionist painter Edouard Manet has a lot to do with my technique and color scheme. The only difference is that I have a captured moment in my photography; that allows me to have more time, with the use of impressionistic strokes and techniques. In addition, I like the juxtaposition of cultures around the world with art.

Dianne Romero Buitrago is an artist with an enriched American and Colombian culture. Born in New Jersey she moved to Florida as a very young child making it her permanent home. Her interest in art was sparked form a very young age as she saw her mother and aunt drawing and painting. As soon has her mother discover her talent she was introduce to the world of art. She obtained her Bachelors in Art education at Florida International University and then her Masters in art education. Dianne is currently working on a book while working as an artist and art educator for Miami Dade County Public Schools. Her passion and knowledge of the world of animation has inspired her to write her own graphic novel that she calls The F Book. Along side for the book she created the Peeps they are the characters that illustrates the book. In her drawing series she has a unique use of ink and a good sense of the human form that allows her bodies to lose all connections of the idea of the perfect body. Dianne's artwork is a reflection of her experience working as a teacher but also a reflection of her self. She recognizes that every child's culture is so unique and different and how we know very little about. Dianne experienced first hand the hardship of living in our society and the changes the body and mind makes from adolescence into adulthood. She introduces her new series of portraits of children and young adults by saying:
"Why not paint children? I feel that I am a child at heart. In fact, why grow up when being a child was so fun and creative. Becoming an adult is frightening, but then again as children we dream to become adults, why? I paint children and teens because that was the best time in my life and for everyone else as well. I just love their expressions and their sense for life. As children we had wonderful adventures and played creative games, looking back I could not come up with any those things if tried. I want to paint my memories, my personalities, my dreams and my life through children; in addition, I want to teach others the different cultures around the world. I've been always told "Dianne grow up", but how can I when the world looks so much better through a child's' eyes. "
